Sports parks to get funding

KNIGHT Park in Yennora and Avery Park in Fairfield West will both receive new car parks.

Fairfield MP and opposition spokesman for sport and recreation Guy Zangari recently secured more than $60,000 in government funding for the work.

"It was with great pleasure that I could recommend $30,000 be granted to Fairfield Council for works to be completed at Knight Park, Yennora and Avery Park, Fairfield West," he said.

"An additional $31,213 went towards the Southern Districts Soccer Football Association for works to be completed at Knight Park."

Southern Districts Soccer Football Association president Andy Favaloro said it would be money well spent.

"Some of that money will go towards fencing off both fields so that the kids can play there and have the spectators on the other side of the fencing," he said.

"The rest of the money will go towards developing a youth development centre for Southern Districts.

"To be able to start building a development centre for the association and its youth in Fairfield is fantastic."

Mr Favaloro said works to construct the youth centre would start later in the year.
