Phoenix club rarin' to go

FAIRFIELD Phoenix Baseball Club has started the winter season.

The scheduled opening round was washed out and the season delayed one week.

Phoenix club president Darryl West said they have three men's teams playing in the winter competitions.

They have two fourth division and G3 grade teams.

The fourth division teams play under the Fairfield Phoenix name and the G3 grade team are known as Fairfield Devils.

"At this stage all three teams have plenty of players which is good for the winter competitions," Darryl West said. The winter season runs from March to August.

He said the summer competitions for juniors and seniors are from September to March.

The Phoenix play in the Baseball NSW Sydney Metropolitan competitions.

West said the club had undergone several name changes since it formed 30 years ago.

"We started as Fairfield Baseball Club, then we became Fairfield RSL Baseball Club and 12 years ago we became Fairfield Phoenix," West said.
