THE relationship between Cabramatta police and Cabramatta High School students has strengthened after the school held its annual Police Links Day earlier this month.
Officers met with year 7 students to discuss topics including cyber safety, juvenile crime and its consequences and the Young Offenders Act.
The school's Police Links co-ordinator Dhiresh Prakash said the police liaison officers also addressed sexting, a growing problem among youth.
"About 20 years ago, this wasn't an issue but with the rise of multimedia we now need to make kids aware," he said.
He said officers spent the second half of the day speaking to students about drugs, alcohol, tobacco and how to avoid crime by not submitting to peer pressure.
"This is the biggest issue kids are facing. We also used the case study of Nona Belomesoff, who was murdered by a young man in 2010 after he befriended her on Facebook. This was to highlight the dangers students face when using social media."
The students spent the remaining part of the day playing a friendly match of basketball with the police.
This was a definite highlight, Mr Prakash said.
