FOR almost six decades Fairfield Patrician Brothers Junior Rugby League Club has been tackling opponents.
It's a club that's had several internationals and NRL stars play for them, including Peter Sterling, Paul Langmack, Jamal Idris, Ben Roberts, Justin Morgan and Michael Vella.
Fairfield Patrician Brothers vice-president Andrew Barakat said the club is focusing on building for the future.
"This year we have teams in the under-6s, 7s, 8s, 9s, 10s and under-15s," Barakat said. "Overall, that's 100 registered players.
"We have a core group of teams that will provide us with a foundation for the future. In the next few years we want more teams to train and play at our home ground Carrawood Park, Carramar."
The club was formed in 1957. Over the years many students from Fairfield Patrician Brothers College played weekend rugby league with the club.
Barakat said not as many students had joined in recent years.
But he did say the college still extends an open invitation for the students to play with them.
Barakat said the club is open to juniors, boys and girls from all over Fairfield. "We have five or six girls playing at the club and we would like to see more come and join." The Parramatta District Junior Rugby League season starts on Saturday, April 26.
