Cabramatta Police have charged a man after he allegedly discharged a firearm in a public place.
At 10am yesterday, police were called to Links Avenue, Cabramatta, after residents reported hearing gun shots.
Residents informed police that an elderly man had been firing a rifle at birds sitting on powerlines.
Police searched the area and found two dead Currawong birds, as well as a third bird suffering a gun-shot wound.
It was taken to the local vet for treatment.
Investigating officers spoke with an 80-year-old man who was driving his car nearby.
The man was arrested and his home on Links Avenue was searched with police allegedly finding two rifles and ammunition.
Officers seized the firearms, ammunition and the man’s firearms licence.
He will attend Liverpool Local Court on a date to be fixed, for discharging a firearm in a public place, and aggravated animal cruelty.
