Fairfield Phoenix baseball Club's giant battle

FAIRFIELD Phoenix Baseball Club will rise again for the winter competition which starts on Saturday, March 29.

The Phoenix recently finished the summer season in the Sydney Metropolitan League.

Phoenix president Darryl West said the third grade men's side was the club's only team which made a grand final.

Their open age women's and fourth grade men's team made the semi-finals but were knocked out.

Holroyd Giants defeated the Phoenix 14-3 in the recent premiership decider at Guildford West Sportsground.

"On the day the Giants were too good," Darryl West said.

Phoenix third grade men's team coach Nathan West said the team tried hard but were outplayed on the day.

"The Giants batted and fielded better than us," Nathan West said.

The Phoenix are looking for players for teams in the winter competition.

"We're seeking players for the men's open grades and girls' 15 years and over can join, as we are forming a mixed team for the winter competitions," West said.
