Film traces Buddha's path

PAL International School hosted an advanced screening of the international film Sri Siddhartha Gautama last week.

The film's leading actor Gagan Malik and producer Navin Gooneratne attended the event and met students from the Canley Vale school.

The school's English teacher, Renata Ratzer, said it was an honour to be selected for the film's screening.

"This preview was shown in only a very few venues in Australia, mostly temples," she said.

"Comments from the students ranged from 'awesome' to 'moving' and 'fabulous'.

"The film is set across India 2500 years ago with sidelights on the customs and rituals of the old kingdoms and some great action shots where Siddhartha is challenged to prove himself in archery, spear-throwing and sword fighting."

Ms Ratzer said the film's cinematography was a highlight of the film and strongly projects its film's message.

"The pageantry never took away from the real message of the film: the teachings of the Buddha, and the enormous sacrifice he made in tearing himself away from his wife, son and family," she said.
