Sports High stars in NSW hockey teams

COURTNEY Schonell, Tasha Ball, Xavier Dao and Bill Graf are the latest Westfields Sports High School products to make NSW hockey representative teams.

Year 9 students Xavier, 14, and Bill, 14, are in the NSW boys' under-15s team at the Australian Championships in Perth from April 12 to April 20.

Both boys play fullback.

In recent times they have also played for Sydney and Sydney south west under-15s representative teams.

Year 8 students Courtney, and Tasha are in the NSW girls' under-15s team at the Australian titles in Hobart from April 12 to April 20.

Tasha is a goalkeeper and Courtney plays inner forward.

Westfields Sports High School hockey coach George Manou said there are plenty of talented players from year 7 to year 12.

"We have 26 hockey players in the program," Manou said.

"All students do two sessions a week and we also ensure their academic studies are maintained at the required standard."

Manou has taught at the school and run the hockey program for more than 20 years.
