Cabramatta man arrested over assault of wheelchair-bound man

A man was arrested and charged following the alleged assault of a wheelchair-bound man at Fairfield yesterday.

About 1.40pm on Thursday, February 21, the 47-year-old man, who has severe arthritis, was at Fairfield train station when he became involved in a verbal altercation with another man.

It will be alleged that the 18-year-old man punched the older man several times and spat at him, before leaving the area.

The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics and police commenced inquiries into the incident.

About 3.30pm the same day, the 18-year-old man attended Liverpool police station where he was arrested.

He was charged with assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The man, from Cabramatta, was given conditional bail and will appear in Fairfield Local Court on March 13.
