Handy academic tips

EXAMS can be difficult at the best of times, but those last exams before leaving high school are often the hardest.

Here are some helpful tips from academictips.org to help you prepare for exams.

Two weeks before the exam:

● Prepare study sheets for each class; your study sheets should summarise the readings, class notes, and any hand-outs.

● Type your study sheets so they can be easily read. Use bold type and white space to accentuate important ideas.

● For the next two weeks, read through your study sheets at least three times each day.

The night before the exam:

● Read your study sheets

● Make sure you go to bed early and get a good night's rest

● Set your alarm and get up early, and allow plenty of time to get to the exam

The day of the exam:

● Eat a good, well rounded breakfast. This will help your blood sugar stay at a stable level.

At the exam:

● Relax and take a deep breath

● Give yourself enough time to finish the entire test, so keep an eye on the clock.

● Use your reading time wisely, and try to look at the entire test.

● Make sure you place correct information on the test.

● Try to use the entire exam period rather than rushing through the test.

If you are writing an essay:

● Read the question carefully and analyse what you should put in the answer. If the question has multiple parts, use these parts to structure your answer. Use the writing process you have learnt and stick to the format you have been given.
