JOSH Loulias has the physique of a jockey yet the teenager has only one sport on his mind — golf.
The youngster, who is a featherweight 38 kilograms, stands at 150 centimetres, plays off a 16 handicap and he’s only 13.
Josh is one of the rising talents at Liverpool Golf Club at Lansvale.
He has been under the coaching and development of the club’s golf professional Brent Dale for the past year.
‘‘Josh is coming along well and he certainly is a talent,’’ Dale said.
‘‘He’s only 13 and we are not rushing him.
‘‘Josh won the club junior championship nett division last year.’’
Josh is now playing B grade in the club championships against adults.
Dale said he’d grown up around golf as his dad Manuel who plays at the club was a very good player.
‘‘Josh can hit the ball 200 metres from the tee with the club,’’ Dale said.
Dale said the youngster has a fantastic attitude, a willingness to learn and always came to the course with a smile on his face.
Josh said he’d learnt plenty from Dale since having weekly lessons over the past 18 months.
‘‘Brent has taught me a lot about the game — my club shots, my iron shots, my putting, all aspects of the game.’’
Josh said Dale had also emphasised the need to be positive and relaxed when playing.
He said playing golf was now his number one priority: ‘‘I used to play soccer with Chipping Norton but the only sport I play now is golf.’’
In the next few months he will enter several junior tournaments as well as playing B grade in club championships to further develop his skills.
