Gang member faces firearm charges

A member of the Brothers for Life Blacktown chapter will appear in Bankstown Local Court today, charged with drug and firearm offences.

On Monday, detectives attached to Strike Force Sitella arrested a 22-year-old man at Silverwater.

He was charged with two counts of possess unauthorised prohibited firearm and pistol, and three counts of supply prohibited drug.

Strike Force Sitella was formed by detectives from the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad to investigate a handful of shootings that occurred between July and November last year.

These include the shooting of a man in Dunmore Street, Wentworthville, on July 25; the shooting of a man at Reillys Road, Winston Hills, on November 3; the shooting of a young woman at Sunnyholt Road, Blacktown, on November 4; and the shooting of a man in Salisbury Road, Guildford, on November 27.

Strike force police have so far arrested 11 people, seized five guns, and laid 78 charges.
