FAIRFIELD Council will present the 2014 Australia Day Community Awards on Australia Day.

There are four categories that will be presented: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Sports Achiever of the Year.

Last year's winners were Dr Aunty Mae Robinson (Citizen of the Year), Angel Rivera (Young Citizen of the Year), Les Milne (Volunteer of the Year) and Georgia Rowntree (Sports Achiever of the Year).

Aboriginal elder Aunty Mae was shocked to win the big award. "I was highly honoured to be given the award because it's a community award. I'm very proud," she said.

For the full list of winners see next week's Champion.
