ENGLISH celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has announced his Ministry of Food charity will open a cooking school at Stockland Wetherill Park in August 2014.
The announcement was made last Thursday at Wetherill Park Shopping Centre by Mr Oliver via satellite from his London kitchen.
The first of its kind in NSW and the third for Australia, after Geelong in Victoria and Ipswich in Queensland, the schools are part of Mr Oliver's international fight against increasing obesity and declining kitchen skills.
"I am so excited that the Ministry of Food is growing and expanding into western Sydney," he said.
"Australia is truly leading the way when it comes to using food education to tackle the problems of diet-related disease — it's a really positive move in the right direction and something all countries around the world should take note of."
The cooking school will be built as part of a $222 million redevelopment program of Stockland's Wetherill Park centre.
Stockland Wetherill Park's chief executive of commercial property, John Schroder, said Stockland was thrilled to get behind the Good Foundation program which puts such a strong emphasis on healthy living and healthy meals. He said Stockland always strived to create a better way of life for their customers and the Ministry of Food affirmed their philosophy.
The Good Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, partnered with Jamie Oliver and The Good Guys to deliver Jamie's Ministry of Food in Australia.
