CHARGED with promoting the motto I Shall Strive For My Best, Bonnyrigg High School's student representative council lead by example.
Each year the school holds elections at the end of term three to determine the make up of the council.
Grades 7 through 10 each have four representatives. They are elected by their fellow peers.
There are eight young leaders from Year 11, and six from year 12, comprising two school captains, two vice captains and two senior prefects.
The new council for 2014 recently met with the old guard.
"Those that just joined the SRC, be prepared for a year jam-packed with putting together events, laughter and gratitude," said school captain Mirna Bihnam.
"Remember that SRC is all about teamwork and doing the best that you possibly can for your peers."
This year, the council plans to achieve many goals.
The school image group plans to implement a housing point system as well as additional uniform.
The student welfare committee plans to work at closing the gap between selective and mainstream students, while a maintenance check on the school staffrooms will also take place.
The committee will also raise funds for a new LED board at the front of the school.
The environment committee will look at ways of making the school more environment-friendly by encouraging the use of recycling bins.
"I think that a solid difference can be made only when an individual has a supportive network behind them — I want to guarantee a uniform and motivated culture within the SRC that each individual can then extend to their year group," said Mirna.
