MOUNTIES were defeated 32-18 by Wentworthville Magpies in the Ron Massey Cup rugby league grand final at St Marys Stadium on Saturday.
The Eddie Flahey-coached team were gallant in defeat against their experienced opponents. Mounties trailed 16-8 at half-time.
Two tries in four minutes sealed the win for the Magpies as they raced to a 28-8 lead.
Mounties media manager Michael Pugsley said the players and coaching staff worked hard all season and making the grand final was a mighty achievement.
"We're proud of the team making the grand final," Pugsley said.
"Our players and coaching staff gave it their best."
In other news, Mounties players Sam Brunton and Adam Tangata have been selected for the Cook Islands' World Cup squad. Tere Glassie is on the coaching staff.
