PASTELS may be trendy and neutrals reign supreme, but for an award-winning look, a classic retro eye is a simple, sure and striking way to make an impact.
That's the latest trend hitting the makeup industry this spring, say KOLT makeup owners Catherine Osorio, 23, from Fairfield, and Kristy Theodorakakis, 23, from Liverpool.
Miss Osorio said the 1950s "Hollywood" look had crept back into fashion and that meant that retro eyes accompanied by a bright-coloured lipstick were a hit.
"For brides, this season's new trend is the nude, champagne smokey eye, with thick winged black eyeliner and bright lipstick," she said.
"Not only has this look been inspired by Marilyn Monroe and celebrity Kim Kardashian, but it recently became really popular after the movie The Great Gatsby came out."
Ms Theodorakakis agreed and said this season's new trend for formal makeup comprised bright coloured smokey eyes and nude matte lips.
"A lot of girls wear cocktail dresses to their formals so we usually do a smokey eye with a bright colour and then for the lip colour we alternate it to what colour dress they will be wearing," she said.
"With the Hollywood look, matte lip colours are in, not glossy, and the 'in' lipstick colours at the moment are bright oranges, pinks and reds."
Both these makeup experts can create any look, but they agree that certain tricks of the trade accentuate or hide certain features of the face.
"Lots of illusions can be made with makeup but we always make sure that whatever we do, it works on our client's face," Ms Theodorakakis said.
