HIGH on the agenda of a group of Prairiewood High School students is stamping out violence against both men and women.
Year 10 students Erica Gonzalez and Zac El-Sayed serve as youth ambassadors for White Ribbon. Their committee's aim is to raise awareness to domestic violence through a range of initiatives including fundraising.
On November 20, the group has organised a mufti day dubbed "White Out Day".
On the day they will host an assembly to promote awareness about violence against women.
The Prairiewood High School soccer team is also a part of the White Ribbon Cup.
"It's a good group of people, and they are always enthused to be a part of things," said Zac.
To engage fellow students, the committee encouraged other students to help devise a logo for their group.
Its main goal is recognition for the reality that violence is out there and it needs to be stopped.
"I think this committee is a fantastic idea," said Erica. "We need that, not only in our school, but also in our community."
The committee meets every second Wednesday during lunch to discuss activities.
