IT’S A case of money in the bank for young tennis player Jonathan Bejar.
The Marconi Tennis Academy player has just snared a $50,000 sponsorship.
The 18-year-old recently acquired the funding from an organisation that wishes to remain anonymous.
A family friend was the intermediary who negotiated the deal for Bejar.
‘‘I am very grateful for the sponsorship, which is going to help with my travel costs and expenses for my tennis career,’’ Bejar said.
‘‘One of my goals is to play at the French Junior Open this year.’’
Later this month Bejar, pictured, will fly to Europe for a series of juniors events before returning home and then flying back in May for the French junior open.
Bejar also does some coaching with junior players at the Marconi Tennis Academy, which is run by Stewart Whicker.
The teenager said he is looking forward to the challenge of playing on the red clay circuits of Europe including the French junior open.
He recently started the year with a win in the Raymond Terrace 18-years-and-under boys singles.
‘‘It was good to have a win,’’ Bejar said.
Whicker said it will give him a real confidence boost.
‘‘He will only get better with more tennis and playing tournaments,’’ he said.
