Gun found in Canley Vale

A police pursuit has led Cabramatta officers to allegedly finding a loaded firearm at a home in Canley Vale.

A 23-year-old man and his 18-year-old girlfriend have been charged with several offences after the pursuit on Tuesday.

Police said they tried to stop a white Hyundai Accent on Sussex Street, Cabramatta at 11.15am but the driver failed to comply.

They alleged the car stopped in the driveway of a home in Chancery Street and the man ran inside.

They said his girlfriend tried to close the door and hit one of the officers on the head.

Police said they also found a loaded firearm inside a bedroom.

The man, who they said was disqualified from driving until 2033, was charged with driving while disqualified, police pursuit – not stop (Skye’s Law), resisting arrest and two outstanding warrants.

His girlfriend was charged with hindering police, possessing an unregistered firearm, not keeping the firearm safely, possessing ammunition without holding a licence and assaulting police.

Both were refused bail and were due to appear in Bankstown Local Court.
