Fairfield: Man's body found in a park

Police are treating the death of a man who's body was found in a park on Vine Street, Fairfield this morning (Thursday, February 21) as suspicious.

Police were called to Fairfield Park at about 4.15am where they found the body.

A crime scene was established and detectives from Fairfield Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

The man had injuries to the upper body and head and his death is being treated as suspicious.

Police are aware of the identity of the man but are not revealing his name until relatives have been informed.

The man is yet to be formally identified but police described him as being 25 years-old and of Asian appearance. 

He was wearing a long-sleeve dark-blue hooded jumper, black shorts and joggers.

Acting Superintendent at Fairfield Local Area Command Stephen Thomas described it as a violent death.

"We are seeking assistance from the public in relation to any information they may have," he said. "Whether they have heard and saw anything of a suspicious nature in, around the park to come forward."    

Investigations into the matter are continuing and a post mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of the man’s death.
