CABRAMATTA Rugby League hosted the annual International Nines tournament on Saturday with the thrill seeking PNG team crowned the major winners.
In its sixth year, the International Nines attracted 28 teams on Saturday with exciting matches played at New Era Stadium.
Teams participated in four categories, the cup, trophy, plate and bowl.
PNG won the main event, the cup, 10-4 against Wests Illawarra.
In other competitions; Cabramatta won the trophy, Fiji were victors in the plate while Blacktown Workers won the bowl.
Cabramatta Rugby League Club chief executive Brad Woodhead said the players had to contend with showery and slippery conditions throughout the day.
"The event is growing in status each year," Woodhead said.
Teams competed for $15,000 prizemoney and among the international representation were, Japan, Cook Islands, Italy, Fiji, Portugal, PNG.
Woodhead said the International Nines is also a great away to launch the league season.
- In other news, Chris Yates has been appointed coach of Cabramatta's Ron Massey Cup side this season, while Pat Weisner is the club's Sydney Shield team coach.
