Harmon Sandhu best player as Lions win under-16s competition

FAIRFIELD Liverpool Cricket Club's Green Shield representative team has won the competition for the second time.

The young Lion cubs defeated Sutherland at Glenn McGrath Oval on Sunday. Sutherland made 145 with player of the final, Harmon Sandhu, taking 4-15 from his 10 overs. In reply the Lions reached 3-147 with Harmon topscoring with 75. Harmon received the Kevin Cunningham Medal for his outstanding performance. Fairfield Liverpool first won the Green Shield competition in season 1993/94.

The team is coached by Fairfield Liverpool first grade skipper Anthony Clark.

"It was a great performance by the 14 players we used in the squad for the competition," Anthony Clark said.

"All of the boys are playing grade cricket and our wicketkeeper Jaek Doran is playing first grade. Several of the team can play again next season as they will still be under 16."

Club president Richard Cook said the win shows the talent coming through at the Lions. "It augurs well for the future of our club."
