YOUNG tennis ace Anne-Marie Medcalf's training sessions with junior men's player Jonathan Bejar are helping to reap dividends on the court.
The Abbotsbury teenager has started the year in brilliant form, winning one of the top annual tournaments on the junior girls' calendar.
Anne-Marie, 14, won the Gosford Junior Open under-16s girls singles titles in straight sets. Her winning ways continue on from several victories in girls' singles tournaments last year. She is ranked in the top 20 in NSW.
Anne-Marie said her regular practice sessions with Bejar at Marconi Tennis Centre have helped with his overall game.
"Having Jonathan has a training partner has helped in my matches against the girls," Anne-Marie said.
Combined with her own natural talent and hard work ethic, which includes a six-day a training regimen, the Bossley Park High School student is on the rise.
Anne-Marie flew to New Zealand last weekend to play in tournaments in Auckland and Wellington over the next fortnight. "I will start my school year when I get back," she said.
Anne-Marie's coach at Marconi Tennis Centre, Stewart Whicker, said the youngster has the right attitude to do well.
"She has her two feet planted on the ground," Whicker said.
Former women's professional player Janine Thompson also coaches Anne-Marie once a week. Anne-Marie said she is "blessed" to have two good coaches looking after her.
