RESULTS from Sydney Water testing at the contaminated Cabramatta Creek site have ruled out sewage pollution, but the cause is still unknown.
Liverpool residents Bernard and Michelle Fortin whose property backs onto the Elouera Bushland Reserve said they were shocked to find large waterbirds searching for food and water on their properties recently.
Mr Fortin said Cabramatta Creek has long had a problem with pollution but native wildlife fleeing their homes was not a good sign.
"This pollution is an ecological disaster. There is a septic smell coming from that site and the river is covered in a greasy film," he said.
Both Liverpool Council and Sydney Water have cleared rubbish and all other visible debris out of the creek bed and further tests will continue.
