EASTERN Creek has been chosen to host this year’s Top Gear Festival.
Australia is only the second country in the world to host this event.
Top Gear Festival Sydney will take place over two adrenalin packed days in March and will draw petrol heads from across the country and the rest of the world to the newly refurbished Sydney Motorsport Park.
British Top Gear hosts, Jeremy Clarkson and James May as well as The Stig will join Australian co-host Shane Jacobson and a raft of international celebrities to the event for nine hours of live automotive action across two race circuits and live action zones.
Watch our video interview with Mr Jacobson below:
Mr Jacobson said the Top Gear Festival Sydney will be the greatest outdoor motoring festival in Australia.
‘‘I think the reason it’s going to be the greatest motoring festival in Australia because of the diversity,’’ he said.
‘‘Lets be honest, it’s because of the madness.
‘‘You put Jeremy Clarkson, James May and myself to a degree as well on a race track with a whole bunch of race cars mixed in with Mark Webber in a Formula One, an aeroplane that races cars, bring Craig Lowndes, grab Fabian Coulthard and you grab all the touring car masters and throw them on a race track and you go berserk, I reckon that’s a pretty good recipe.’’
At the festival, Red Bull Racing Formula One team together with Mark Webber will attempt to break the lap record and will also square off with V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup and racing legend Craig Lowndes in The Ultimate Race: F1 Vs V8.
Mr Clarkson and Mr May will attempt to speed up the Express Postal service with the Postie Bike Challenge.
The Stig will set power lap times in some of the rarest supercars the country has ever seen.
Three celebrity teams will battle it out in the inaugural Tri-Nation’s Cup which will include a series of motoring challenges.
Plus, Former F1 World Champion Alan Jones will be setting his 1980 Williams F1 car against Bathurst legend Colin Bond in the Alan Moffat’s 1977 Ford Falcon.
Jamie Whincup will be taking on aerobatic pilot Matt Hall to settle which is faster around the track — a plane or car.
Plus, 16 drifters will tear the track up in a drifting session.
