Kids will have a ball

FAIRFIELD City Little Athletics has the Australia Day event for sports-mad Aussies.

Coaching educator Brendan Lee said there was something for everyone to enjoy.

"Fairfield Council approached us this year and asked if we wanted to run events to celebrate Australia Day that will be fun for families and friends to join in," Mr Lee said.

"We will hold a carnival fun day and there will be a number of sporting activities taking place, including beach cricket and beach volleyball.

"We will also hold a barbecue and there will be a jumping castle for kids to enjoy."

With sporting events that are fun for the whole family and a traditional barbecue lunch, Fairfield Little Athletics is putting on a great event that will be fun for all ages.

Mr Lee said Australia Day gave communities a chance to forget differences and have a cultural get-together.

"We celebrate all as one, no matter what our race or colour," Mr Lee said.

"Everyone can have an enjoyable day to celebrate together and put all their differences aside."

There will also be a multitude of fun competitions and activities available.

"We will hold a gumboot throwing contest which basically consists of throwing a gumboot as far as you can," Mr Lee said.

"The aim of the game is to see who can hold the highest record.

"We will also hold beach volleyball and cricket games that will see families team up against one another."
