FORMER Test fast bowler Doug Bollinger played for Fairfield Liverpool at Rosedale Oval on Saturday, grabbed a wicket against Gordon, and finished second top scorer with the bat.
The Lions batted first and made a moderate 161 from 63 overs and also had former NSW batsman Ben Rohrer back in the line-up after his duties with Melbourne Renegades. Rohrer made only eight.
Bollinger scored 18, second highest to teammate Mitch Williams, who defied Gordon’s bowlers for 235 minutes, and scored a gritty 94, from 182 balls.
A left-arm bowler, Bollinger has played only three games this season for the Lions because of NSW and Twenty20 team commitments. In fact, his innings on Saturday was his first one this summer for his club.
Williams held the innings together and got good support from Bollinger with the pair adding 70 for the eighth wicket partnership.
In reply, Gordon were in strife at 4-42 at stumps and right-arm speedster Gurinder Sandhu claimed 3-23 with his lightning quick spell late in the day. Day two resumes this Saturday at Rosedale Oval at 10.30am.
