STEWART Whicker is leading a revival to get tennis back into the hearts, minds and souls of youngsters in the Fairfield district.
The qualified and experienced tennis coach, who runs Marconi Tennis Centre at Bossley Park, wants to strike while the iron is hot.
For the past 13 years, Whicker, has operated the Marconi Tennis Centre.
Now, 39, he recalls when he grew up, local tennis courts were booked out and getting time to play was somewhat difficult. Courts were full.
Whicker said in recent years there has been a trend downwards in tennis participation numbers.
But he has worked overtime in recent months to try and reverse the slide and wants to see tennis in Fairfield flourishing again.
"During summer in Australia with all the big professional tournaments being played, tennis is the forefront of tennis lovers' minds," Whicker, of Wetherill Park, said.
"The Australian Open is on now and I know the focus is on this event and it's time for kids who want to get involved.
"I am pushing a theme for children to get away from the computers, the PlayStations and the technology and come and grab a tennis racquet and come and play the game."
