FROM karaoke singer to international sensation. That's the plan for Old Guildford's Sabrina Mitwali, who will head to Hollywood this year representing Australia at the World Championships of Performing Arts.
The 22-year-old's audition clip for the competition — in which more than 40 actors, singers, dancers and models will compete in July for the $130,000 in scholarships — impressed the judges.
Miss Mitwali said she did not expect to be selected.
"I sent through all my YouTube clips, bios and pictures, and when I got that email saying I had made it, I just screamed. I was so shocked and now I'm so excited," she said.
"Over the years I've applied for so many competitions and shows but I just keep getting knocked back and now I know why, it's because this opportunity has come my way."
There will be more than 100 entertainment industry experts invited to judge the competition, and those who are successful will land themselves a scholarship at the Millennium Dance Complex in North Hollywood, California and the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, School of Film and Television.
Miss Mitwali will perform five songs in different genres in a bid to claim a scholarship.
"I just want to perform my best, keep confident and strong. It's going to be amazing," she said.
"I'm so proud to be representing my country as well. It will definitely be the most rewarding and thrilling experience being able to perform in front of everyone."
But this isn't the first time Miss Mitwali has hit fame.
In 2010, she was in the final eight of reality music competition X Factor for the under 25 women's leg of the competition.
She has also travelled Australia performing her debut single Sexy On Ya. Miss Mitwali will fly out to Hollywood with her mother on July 2. Competition starts July 11.
"I'm going to make a trip of it and record some of my songs in New York," she said.
She needs $10,000 for the trip and is focused on fund-raising.
