PROGRESSIVE hammer and discus thrower Jessica Stikovic finished last year on a high and 2013 is shaping for more further development for the young athlete.
The Westfield Sports Club member last month competed in the Australian All Schools Nationals in Hobart.
The Good Samaritan Catholic College Hinchinbrook year 10 student, competed in hammer and discus at the championships.
In the hammer event Jessica won a silver medal, throwing 53.22 metres beating her personal best by four metres. In the discus, she was fourth throwing it, 37 metres.
The 173 centimetre tall competitor said the experience of competing at Hobart would place her in good stead in future competition.
Jessica competes for the Western Blues Little Athletics Club in Austral and also for the Westfield Sports Senior club.
"I do a bit of coaching at Western Blues and I enjoy it," Jessica said.
"I am coaching a 10-year-old girl at the club, Bianca Samperi, she is doing really well. "
Jessica trains at Gipps Road, Greystanes under former Olympic competitor Karyne Di Marco and Bre Clements who are leading coaches of hammer, discus and shot put throwing.
Jessica has just been selected to represent Australia at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in January. She said she is "thrilled" with the news.
Athletes from 30 nations will compete in 17 sports from the January 16 to January 20, at Sydney Olympic Park. Jessica said she will be competing in the hammer throw on January 19 at the festival.
