Inquiries are continuing into a home invasion where a man in his 20s was allegedly assaulted in his home unit in Surry Hills after chatting to a man on a mobile phone internet chat site in September.
Police have released an image of a man who may be able to assist with inquiries. They believe the man could be from the south-west region.
Two men who attended the apartment have been described as being of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean appearance.
Surry Hills Local Area Command’s Crime Manager and Detective Inspector Craig Middleton said people should be cautious when using internet chat sites.
‘‘People need to be aware that what they are looking at or who they are speaking to on the internet may not always be what it seems,’’ he said.
‘‘One of the most important things to remember is that how a person portrays themselves on the internet can be very different from their real life persona.’’
Anyone with information about this incident should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
