TRADITIONAL Cook Islands-inspired costumes were welcomed by St Johns Park High School's Pacific Islander dance group when they arrived on November 22.
The girls, who recently formed the first group of its kind at the school, proudly showed their new costumes around the quadrangles.
Costumes were hand-made by Beverly Akaiti of Campbelltown.
"As long as the girls are happy, I'm happy with how it all looks," she said.
"The girls picked the colours. It's really not that hard to make.
"Took me about seven days to finish the skirts and head pieces."
The dance group is for the school's Pacific Islander students of all ages.
Year 12 student Chrystal Leo said she joined because "it is a privilege for us to showcase our culture through dance".
"We can show people what we can do because we're proud of our culture," she said.
Year 8 student Annie Pese said it was also a chance for students to give back to the school.
