Community day to be held at Merrylands

NSW Police Disability Advisory Council is holding a community day in Merrylands this Saturday.

The Community Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday, December 1 at Merrylands Oval, Merrylands, and will highlight the abilities and contributions of people with a disability.

The day will consist of demonstrations, food stalls, give-aways, information booths and a host of performances, featuring artists from the disability community and other community performers.

Assistant Commissioner Denis Clifford, corporate spokesperson for vulnerable communities, said the event is part of celebrations for the United Nations’ International Day of People with a Disability on Monday, December 3.

“In NSW, the diversity and ability of people with a disability is celebrated with the ‘Don’t DIS my ABILITY’ campaign, which recognises the achievements and contributions of people with a disability,” said Assistant Commissioner Clifford.

“We formed the Disability Advisory Council to consult with the disability community on matters associated with criminal justice and law enforcement for people with a disability in NSW.

“Our Community Family Fun Day builds on that relationship and focuses on removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all.

“It is also a chance for members of the disability community to showcase their diverse talents and raise awareness of issues for their community.
