 Stellar year for talented player

Stellar year for talented player

18 Nov, 2009 10:48 AM
MARCONI Tennis head coach Stewart Whicker has seen plenty of talented 14-year-olds in his time but none better than Jonathan Bejar. ``He's the most talented 14-year-old I've ever come across,'' he said. ``If he continues with a great work ethic then the sky is the limit.''

Jonathan recently claimed both the under14s singles and doubles titles at the Southern District Championship in Campbelltown just one of many highlights in an impressive 2009 season.

However, the year is far from over. With the Orange Junior Championship under his belt, Jonathan has his sights set on national honours.

The Glendenning boy will compete at the Australian Championship in Melbourne next month, entering in the under14s and under16s competitions.

A stellar year has thrown him into calculations for a NSW Institute of Sport scholarship, an achievement riding on the results of December's Australian Championship. He is ranked in the country's top 600 players. At the South Pacific Open, the 14-year-old took Australia's 126th ranked player to three sets in the round of 16.
