CANLEY Heights Dragons Rugby League Club produced more State of Origin players than most NRL clubs this season. Forget about the Brisbane Broncos and the Melbourne Storm, it's the Dragons you should know about.
The likes of Nat Levy, Dahlia Tahu, Sonia Mosie, Elianna Walton, Eunice Grimes, Cindy-Lee Whiteley and Shontai Honare.
They may not share the same limelight as the men but to these girls, representing NSW is an honour in itself.
It wasn't just the players who were recognised for their impressive seasons, with Piri and Pati Barber chosen as the state's managing and coaching duo.
The Dragons' players took to CUA Stadium in Penrith last Saturday, clashing with Queensland in the one-off women's State of Origin match. The scores were locked up at 14-14 for most of the second half until disaster struck the Blues 30 seconds out from the full-time siren.
In typical Queensland fashion, the Maroons stole the match with a converted try to hold on to bragging rights for another year.
In her fifth origin match, Dahlia Tahu wasn't expecting such a tough contest. ``I thought we would've dominated but little mistakes cost us.''
The Australian squad to tour New Zealand in September was announced yesterday. Check out next week's Champion to see if any Dragons were picked.
