CABRAMATTA took another step towards claiming the inaugural Bundaberg Red Cup competition with a cleverly orchestrated 39-26 win against the Bankstown City Bulls.
The victory ended a three-year drought of semi-final success for the Two Blues, who will play minor premiers Wentworthville on Saturday for a chance to make the grand final.
Led by five-eighth Trent Trotter, Cabramatta controlled the game from the outset and established a commanding 26-12 lead at the break and were never headed down the stretch on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Leichhardt Oval.
``It was up there with one of our best wins of the season and that is a positive at this time of year,'' Two Blues coach Len Stacker said.
``We went into the game with a great attitude and that showed on the field, especially in defence.''
Defence will be the key in this week's grand final qualifier against the Magpies.
In their previous two meetings this year, a combined total of two points have separated them including a 20-all draw in round 10.
``They are a pretty thorough outfit and play a good percentage based game,'' Stacker said.
``We have had two close games this year and we are expecting nothing different.
``Their backline is very dangerous with the likes of Brent Rae-Millar, Karl Filiga and Astro Waetford, so we need the same attitude as last week to compete with them.''
Stacker said they will wait till later in the week to decide on the fitness of Jamie Trotter (hip) and Si'ikaeha Teaupa (shoulder), while Sam Aiga is on report for a late tackle on the weekend.
This week: Cabramatta vs Wentworthville, Leichhardt Oval, 3pm.
