ALMIR Dizdaric, from Bossley Park, is only days away from embarking on the journey of a lifetime – an invitation to trial with the German Bundesliga club
FC Kaiserslautern.
The 23-year-old striker will depart Australian shores for Germany on Sunday after countless hours of preparation on the training paddock.
‘‘The last two months I have been training twice a day,’’ Dizdaric said.
‘‘I have been doing some extra work with a doctor of physiology who has had me doing some unbelievable things.’’
A fit, healthy and confident Dizdaric is excited about the prospect of training at a club with a reputation of developing some of the game’s greatest players, including current Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack.
At almost two metres tall and weighing 95 kilograms, Dizdaric is hoping his physical nature will suit the German style of football.
‘‘They like big central strikers, that is how the Germans like to play,’’ he said.
‘‘They like to use the wings, they like getting crosses in, and they like people scoring goals with their head.’’
The former St Johns Park High school student has been likened to Socceroos star Joshua Kennedy, but Dizdaric’s former coach, Les Scheinflug, has had
the privilege of working with both, claiming Dizdaric as the more skilful of the two.
‘‘Joshua is good in the air, but he [Dizdaric] is tall, he is good in the air, he is good on both feet, he can hold a player off and he can deliver passes to other strikers,’’ Scheinflug said.
