BATSMEN Wendel Delpechitra and Ben Rohrer were the roaring Lions as Fairfield Liverpool dominated the opening day's play against Penrith at Rosedale Oval on Saturday.
The Lions made 292 after skipper Anthony Clark won the toss and decided to bat.
Delpechitra topscored with 77 and was run out when set for a century while left-hander Rohrer, dropped from the NSW team, cracked 75.
The pair featured in a 101-run partnership for the second wicket.
Missing from the opening day's play were all-rounder Grant Lambert, who was on duty for NSW in the Sheffield Shield match against Queensland at the Sydney Cricket Ground and young spinner Luke Doran who played in the triumphant Australian under-19s team in the World Cup win over Pakistan in New Zealand.
``Both Grant and Luke can play on the second day and they will bolster our bowling stocks,'' Lions' president Richard Cook said.
In other club news, the Lions' Poidevin-Gray Shield under-21s representative team defeated Easts in round seven at Rosedale Oval on Sunday.
The Lions made 241 and dismissed Easts for 222.
