Ben Rohrer talks to the Champion

03 Nov, 2009 06:34 PM
MC: What was it like playing in India?

BR: It was a fantastic experience. The whole atmosphere around the tournament was something that I will probably never experience again, but hopefully I do. It's something that I will keep with me for a long time.

MC: What was it like off the field? How does the Indian following of cricket compare with Australia?

BR: It's nothing like Australia. We were recognised everywhere we went. Brett Lee is like a God over there so every time we went out we were stopped for autographs and photos which was something a lot of our guys weren't used to. They love cricket over there and it was great to experience.

MC: Do you think the Twenty20 Champions League has the potential to develop into one of cricket's most prestigious tournaments?

BR: I think so. Everyone had a fantastic time and to see the way the Aussie guys embraced it was a sign that it's going to become a massive tournament in years to come.

MC: Do you think it will revolutionise Australian domestic cricket?

BR: I think it's going to be a pretty big focus of all states because of the money involved. But there is also the prestige of saying you are the world champions of domestic cricket, something that everyone will be aiming for. The Western Australian guys last Sunday were all very interested in how it was over there and I'm sure it's the main focus of theirs and a main focus of ours this year.

MC: Can you see a change in international scheduling that will allow the big-name players to return to their state teams and compete in the domestic Twenty20 competition?

BR: Eventually they will probably make more games in the big bash so that they can get the international players available for at least a few games to try draw bigger crowds. With that sort of money available they obviously want their best players to play.

MC: Was the Blues team you played with in India the best team you've ever played in?

BR: Definitely. Being on the field with the likes of Brett Lee, Simon Katich and Stuart Clark was great ... I got to see how they go about their business. They were fantastic to all of us and real role models.

MC: It must have felt good to knock Victoria out of the competition after smashing them in the semi-final.

BR: It was very, very nice. It's always good to beat the Vics but it was just a shame that it wasn't in the final. There's always some feeling between the two sides. We obviously know each other off the field but once we are on the field playing for your state there's always some niggle.

MC: Is playing international cricket a realistic goal for you?

BR: At the moment I'm more than happy playing for NSW. If I do well there and more comes of it that would be fantastic.

But just to wear that blue cap is the pinnacle forme.
