THE Fairfield-Auburn Orioles have marched into fourth position on the Sydney Major League competition after a clean sweep of the North Shore Knights at the weekend.

Buoyed by his selection into the NSW Patriots squad for this season's Claxton Shield contest, pitcher Josh Freeman was in unbeatable form on the mound in game one striking out 11 batters in a sublime seven-innings performance.

The Orioles batters capitalised on his performance, with hits from Dane Wigg, Shanin Hislop, Mal Ismail and Kye Hislop ensuring a comfortable 8-1 victory.

It was a similar story in game two, with the orange procession of runs continuing with a commanding 7-0 victory.

Dane Wigg's two hits maintained his position as the league's top batter with a batting average of .484 Together with Shanin Hislop's three his hits formed the backbone of the victory.

It was a good week all round for the Orioles. The under-18s team won 9-3, second grade prevailing 4-1 and third grade holding on for a 3-3 draw.

The Orioles next game is against Cronulla Sharks at Fairfield Park this weekend. Under-18s play on Saturday at 3pm. First, second and third grades play on Sunday. First grade starts at 2.30pm.
