New South Wales Finance Minister Joe Tripodi has been dumped from the state government’s front bench by Premier Nathan Rees.
Mr Tripodi, a Right faction powerbroker whose support has kept Mr Rees safe from a leadership challenge, said he was not given any reason from the premier as to why he wanted him gone from cabinet.
He and Mr Macdonald will be replaced in cabinet by Heathcote MP Paul McLeay and current upper house president Peter Primrose.
Mr Tripodi said Mr Rees still had his full support and said suggestions he may now move to roll him as premier were "ridiculous".
"The premier has got a very difficult job to do, he's made some decisions and we can all debate the merit of the decision," Mr Tripodi told reporters
"I accept those decisions ... and as I've always been loyal to the party I've accepted what the premier has asked me to do."
Both Mr Macdonald and Mr Tripodi were asked to resign within hours of Mr Rees being given new extraordinary powers at the NSW ALP conference, allowing him to now pick the make up of his cabinet.
Previously, the frontbench was dictated to him by faction deals within caucus.
Mr Tripodi said he did not expect to be dumped but said he would serve out the rest of his term and seek preselection for the 2011 poll.
