World-renowned author, film-maker and journalist John Pilger, said refugees should be welcomed in Australia in his speech on Friday at Cabramatta High School's Peace Day celebrations.
Statistics from the past five years show that Fairfield has the highest number of refugees in NSW.

Mr Pilger, winner of this year's Sydney Peace Prize, spoke to students from 24 different schools about promoting peace and justice within the world.
He says Australia takes in a very small amount of refugees in comparison to other countries.
Australia's national figure of incoming refugees is approximately 13,000 a year.
Mr Pilger believes countries are ``enriched'' by those who come as refugees.
``The irony is that refugees are almost the ideal immigrants. They show extraordinary courage, imagination and take risks that Australians are meant to admire,'' he said.
