Opposition leader congratulates Dai Le

02 Nov, 2009 03:26 PM
AN episode of Foreign Correspondent in which Dal Le was a reporter won an award last week at the United Nations Association of Australia Media Peace Awards.

Ms Le, a former Liberal candidate for Cabramatta, is now the multicultural public relations manager for the NSW parliamentary Liberal team.

The Victorian Multicultural Commission/Australian Multicultural Foundation Award for the Promotion of Multicultural Issue went to a report, 'Return of the Boatpeople', shown on ABC Television.

NSW Opposition leader Barry O'Farrell congratulated Ms Le.

''A boatperson herself who arrived in Australia in 1979 with her mother and two sisters, Dai joined a group of other Australian-Vietnamese boatpeople as they retraced their life changing voyages and arrival in Malaysia,'' he said.

''These individuals are now proud Aussies and successful in their own right. They add to the fabric of multicultural Australia, which makes us so unique.''

Ms Le shared the award with her former ABC colleagues producer Trevor Bormann, cameraman Simon Beardsell and editor Garth Thomas.

''This is an outstanding achievement and due recognition of her work,'' Mr O'Farrell said.

''Anyone who saw the program could not help but be moved by it.''

The United Nationals Association of Australia Media Peace Awards program was formed in 1979 to promote understanding and awareness by recognising the media's efforts in stimulating public debate about humanitarian and social justice issues.

Sadiq, you are right.... Just shows that Labor dont have any talent in their party and need the services of good Liberals. Liberals who are true patriots and love Australia will accept the job when asked for their country because it is right and they are needed. Thank you for noticing this fact and for pointing it out. Congratulations to Dai Le - the plight of boat-people in any generation is a human tragedy. I hope everyone thinks about the struggle that desperate people undergo to try to find compassion and a new life in our lucky country.

Now , now, boy from fairfield there are no reasons to get political, I didnt know Superman was a Labor voter. Congratulatuion must go to Dai Le, its great to see her get the award. Just for the record Mr fairfieldboy, i voted liberal at the last council election. i must admit im getting quite upset at the sladerous attacks on anybody that would like to peddle the idea of the truth. Why is it that everytime someone speaks, the facts on this forum they get castigated. The facts are the facts, if your looking for voters please go door knocking or something.

How enchanting to see Dai Le receive recognition like this; how wonderful. I have long tried to get a clean environment in my suburb of Cabramatta and the Fairfield LGA. I am still trying. When I appeared before council I was aspersed and threatened. It was thus most welcome and heartening that Dai Le volunteered to visit the streets with me and councillor Toma to investigate and listen. She conducted herself with decorum, good manners, grace and above all, listened and understood. I concluded that she would make a very good representative and ambassador. Let me make it clear that I say this not because of any party to which she may belong but because she treated me well and I have observed her. Dai Le has a great pedigree, this latest one being recognition of her performance and originating from a completely independent source. She also has origins that align well with the distribution of the people living in my suburb of Cabramatta. I congratulate her and wish to state, unashamedly and as one person to another, that I am very proud of her.

Isn't the 'local newspapers' for people who are local to the Fairfield/Cabramatta Area? This should of gone to the national papers instead of the Fairfield Papers :P

Dai Le lives in Mt Pritchard now, she went to school locally and worked for a local paper for many years, she got married in Canley Vale.. what more local can you get?
