A man walked away unscathed from the wreckage of a light plane which crashed in Abbotsbury this morning, eyewitnesses told the Champion.
The plane came down at around 10am in the Western Sydney Parklands in front of teachers and students from Freeman Catholic College.
Police, ambulance and the fire brigade rushed to the scene of the emergency landing but college teacher Greg King was first to the plane, moments after completing the high school's walkathon at the park.
"I was with some students when we saw the plane and we all thought it was flying pretty low,'' Mr King told the Champion.
"When we saw it go down we rushed over to see if he was alright.''
The 38-year-old pilot landed the plane a few hundred metres from the Freeman students.
"It came down pretty quick and we didn't really hear anything,'' Mr King said.
"He got out of the plane and told us that his engine had cut out.''
The man has been taken to Liverpool Hospital.
