Police in Canley Vale are conducting inquiries after a man was seriously assaulted outside a Canley Vale pub.
Two men became involved in a fight outside the hotel on Canley Vale Road about 6.30pm yesterday (Friday, February 5).
During the fight, one of the men bit the other man on his right thumb causing a severe laceration and multiple fractures before fleeing the scene.
Police from Cabramatta Local Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics were alerted and attended the scene a short time later.
The 66-year-old injured man was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment of his injuries. More than half of his right thumb was amputated as a result of the attack.
Inquiries into the incident are continuing and anyone with information that might assist investigating officers is urged to contact Cabramatta Police Station via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
