FOUR Fairfield youths are daring to go one better than Michael J Fox in Back to the Future and discover what would happen if there was no space-time continuum.
In fact no time at all.
Fairvale High School students Stacey Champion, Sandra Telo, Mahmoud Dandachli and Kimberley Palelei have been selected to perform in the Power Up Ensemble Forever-ever? What if the clock stopped ticking?.
While there is no plutonium-powered DeLorean in sight, there is plenty of singing, dancing, acting and rapping, as the entirely young cast tell several tales about love, loss, ageing and making every moment count.
``I am nervous but excited and am really looking forward to performing,'' Kimberley, 17, said. ``It has been a daunting but a good experience, but I can't wait to get on stage. I love the vibe you get when you are performing and everyone is looking at you.''
The 12-member crew are in lockdown in preparation for opening night on Thursday, August 6 at the Fairfield School of Arts.
There have been no movies or bowling for these teenagers during the school holidays, only hard work and practice. Lots of it.
``You have no idea how much work has gone into the show,'' Stacey, 16, said.
Sandra, 16, said: ``It is nothing like I expected.
``We had a hands-on role in helping develop the show and we have been rehearsing since March and almost every day in the holidays.''
The show is fully self-devised, self-written and self-choreographed under the guidance of award-winning performer, writer and hip-hop artist Candy Bowers.
While the show is the first for the majority of performers, Ms Bowers said it definitely won't be their last.
``My greatest challenge working with the ensemble was trying to fit all that talent into one show,'' she said.
``These young performers will make you laugh, cry and take your breath away!''
