 Fairfield's Australia Day - January 25?

Fairfield's Australia Day - January 25?

13 Nov, 2009 03:28 PM
Fairfield's Australia Day celebrations will be held a day earlier than the rest of the country.

Fairfield Mayor Nick Lalich has confirmed that the official Australia Day festivities will be held on Monday, January 25, "including a citizenship ceremony and presentation of community awards".

"Details of any other activities will be made available when finalised," he said.

The council's Australia Day festivities have previously been held at Fairfield City Farm, which is currently being sold off.

Do you think it's fair for the council to hold Australia Day one day early?

What about the people who work on Australia Day? January 25 is not a public holiday

One question ... why?

Why on earth would you need to hold Australia Day a day early, I suppose it would give workers a longer weekend. I don't agree with the decision, keep it on the proper day.

When does Nick start to make sense? What is the reason? Please explain....

Now we know that the Kingdom of Fairfield operates differently from the rest of Australia. How bizarre. Can we find out which days Nick intends holding Christmas, Easter and Anzac Day ? I mean seriously, the arrogance of these people holds no bounds.

Markus, how many years did you spend as an employee with Fairfield City Council taking photos and preparing speeches for the council at Australia Day functions on the evening of the 25th January. Dont hide behind a veil of secrecy when you used to support such a function on the same date. People do have memories !

What a national disgrace this is! How dare the council insult our nation and its people by suggesting such preposterous ideas. Please explain Nick. Is this setting a good example? Joseph Adams Australian Business Party

What on earth is going on. This throws everybody out. Unfair and ridiculous. There is no excuse why this needs to be earlier. We have other venues to be able to use for the celebrations I'm sure. Surely Mr Lalich could use his time effectively in finding a place and by making this a memorable day on the exact day rather than earlier. This is really not called for.

As a Councillor on Fairfield City Council, this is the first I have heard of this.... I am curious about why Nick would allow it, maybe he wants to spend Australia Day (26 Jan) at home having a BBQ?
