FAIRFIELD City Farm could close before the end of this year.
The Abbotsbury farm's lease with Fairfield Council is due to expire on December24 with staff and animals required to vacate the premises by February6.
The farm is under the ownership of the Western Sydney Regional Parklands Trust, which is calling for expressions of interest from businesses willing to continue running it.
Fairfield Council and the Parklands Trust agree that neither party wants to see the farm close.
A report by Fairfield Council in March stated the council wanted the farm to stay open as a community facility but they did not wish to manage it.
Expressions of interest for the farm are open until October12.
Staff have been kept informed of all developments and are in the process of being helped in ``future employment opportunities'' within the council, executive manager of city services Deborah Sandars said.
She said all staff would be employed until February6 in order to ``effectively exit the site''.
Western Sydney Parklands Trust director Suellen Fitzgerald said the Trust recognised the significant community and heritage value of the farm.
``If no appropriate tender is found the Trust will seek a suitable tenant for the farm to protect these values,'' she said.
She said the Trust had no plans to subdivide Fairfield City Farm.
``Any future use of Fairfield City Farm will be in accordance with the Trust's management vision and commitment to protecting these outstanding places, while managing and increasing public access to them as places for people to experience and enjoy,'' she said.
