Fairfield City Farm rescue support grows

Fairfield City Farm rescue support grows

30 Sep, 2009 02:28 PM
VICKY Mycio has already attracted more than 70 supporters on her ``Save Fairfield City Farm'' Facebook group in the last week.

``I decided to create the group after reading comments on the Fairfield Champion's website from people who have enjoyed the farm so much,'' she said.

Ms Mycio said she wanted to invite ``as many friends, family, neighbours, anybody to get the numbers up and prove that the farm is worth saving''.

She said the farm was a place that bought a lot of memories.

``I loved going to the farm for special occasions and I thought it was such a shame to hear it may be closing for good. My cousin got married at the farm, I was her flower girl,'' she said. ``I also attended playgroup there, charity auctions and the monthly craft market days.''

Ms Mycio said there should be more investigation into ways the farm could make money to stay open.

``If we could have the craft markets happening again the farm would have enough money to stay open and running,'' she said.

Ms Mycio said the entry fee probably drove families away.

``For an average family of four it can be quite costly an adult entry fee is $16, children are $10 or a family ticket is $45.

``That is quite steep.

``On Australia Day, entry is free and there are so many people attending we have to park many streets away.''

Good on ya.. Vicky, for helping in opening the eyes of this community about this great place we have in our own backyard & how quickly it will be losted,if we don't all start to stand up to Fairfields Councils poor community judgement & lack of ideals to keep the farm going & make it work (how can we trust these councilors/mayor to be using our rates payments wisely & making choices for f/fields LGA future cultural growth, community spaces & safe family areas plus educational facilities),when they cant even make up a business plan to save this Major Fairfield assets, they voted down our New Youth Center, passed "yes" twice on a car park & now they plan to sell off the farm?).We should be all Emailing our council &newspapers & local member regarding our disapproval of there actions & as a community member.

Well done Vicky, this is what I mean about people voicing on what they believe in is worth saving. Surely council can do something to keep it going as it is a popular attraction to our city. Council should be taking an interest to be involved and save this place. It has many memories for my kids and worth keeping it. I agree with Phillip. Council are not taking the responsiblity to help our community in better ways. Still debating over the Youth Cente as Phillip said and now its The Farm. Whats next! Perhaps if we all showed up in the next council meeting re these matters maybe just maybe, we all can make a difference and perhaps finally and hopefully be acknowledged by the Council. All the Best in fighting for the Farm Vicky.
